Melanie Bennett


Shozrё Melanie Bennett – born in Dawson City, Yukon and is of the wolf clan from the Tr’ondёk Hwёch’in First Nation. Melanie is the Great Granddaughter of Mary McLeod, Granddaughter of Alice Titus and Daughter of former Chief Hilda Titus. Melanie has dedicated her life to education and working with youth to succeed in education. She has worked in both First Nation Schools and Public Education Schools as a teacher and as an administrator. Currently Melanie is the Director of Human Resources Education and Training with Tr’ondёk Hwёch’in First Nation. Melanie takes pride in our Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, traditional knowledge and strongly advocates that First Nations culturally relevant learning should happen for our students every day in every school. Melanie holds a Bachelor of Education from Malaspina University and a Master’s of Education from UNBC in Multidisciplinary Leadership. In her spare time Melanie enjoys being out on the land, picking berries, gathering medicines and enjoying the Yukon wilderness. Melanie has been sewing since she was eight and takes great pride in the traditional beadwork and clothing designs that she is inspired to create. Every stitch, every bead comes from the traditional teachings of her ancestors and she feels it is an honour each time she sews.
