Anne O’Brien

Director of Education

Durham Catholic District School Board

 Anne O’Brien is the Director of Education at the Durham Catholic District School Board. Prior to this role, she was Superintendent of Education, leading several portfolio, including Special Education, Student Services, Student Success, Safe Schools, Student Mental Health, and Alternative and Continuing Education. She has also served in the field development office of York University, teaching Special Education qualifications for many years.

 Actively advocating for education in Ontario, Anne is involved in a number of professional associations. She served as President of the Canadian Association of School System Administrators (CASSA) where she had the opportunity to present on Canadian education nationally and internationally. Anne has been a Past-President of the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers’ Association (OCSOA); and Vice-Chair of the Institute for Catholic Education (ICE).

Within the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE), Anne has held several leadership positions, such as the CODE Executive, the Strong Districts and their Leadership Advisory Committee, the Ontario Association of Deans of Education Advisory Committee, and Ministry of Education Adult Education Strategy, among others.

From her provincial Supervisory Officers Association, Anne received the OCSOA’s President Award in 2013. She also received the Ontario Xerox EXL Award from CASSA at the 2018 Annual General Meeting. Today Anne is pleased to inspire future superintendents of education by teaching the Leadership: The Provincial Perspective module in the Supervisory Officers Qualification Program in Ontario.
